Compensation for Loss of Life and Property Caused by Wild Animals in and around Forest Areas: Assistance for Loss of Cattle Due to Wild Animal Attacks

The scheme aims to provide financial assistance to owners of domestic animals who suffer losses due to attacks by wild animals in forest areas and their surroundings. Under this scheme, a grant ranging from ₹3,000 to ₹40,000 per animal is provided, depending on the species and extent of loss.

Any permanent resident of Uttarakhand whose domestic animal or cattle has been killed by wild animals in forest areas or surrounding regions is eligible.

What is the procedure for claiming compensation?

- The owner must submit a written report to the range office within two days of the incident. | - Verification is conducted by local authorities and forest staff. | - 20% of the payable amount is released in advance, and the remaining is paid after the final investigation report.

Who approves and disburses the ex-gratia amount?

The Divisional Forest Officer/Deputy Director approves and disburses the final ex-gratia payment based on the final investigation report of the Assistant Conservator of Forests/Wildlife Warden.
