Junior/Senior Fellowship in the Field of Fine Arts

The primary objective of the "Junior/Senior Fellowship in the Field of Fine Arts" is to encourage and support the artistic development of both emerging and experienced artists in Gujarat by providing financial assistance for undertaking experimental, research-based, or revival-oriented projects in the field of fine arts, specifically painting, sculpture, and graphic arts.

The "Junior/Senior Fellowship in the Field of Fine Arts" has been introduced by the Sports, Youth and Cultural Activities Department under the Government of Gujarat to promote the state’s cultural and artistic excellence.

The implementation of the "Junior/Senior Fellowship in the Field of Fine Arts" is carried out by the Gujarat State Fine Arts Academy, which oversees the selection process and administration of the fellowship.

Artists residing in Gujarat who are actively involved in the fields of painting, sculpture, or graphic arts and possess educational qualifications and experience in these fields are eligible to apply for the fellowship under the "Junior/Senior Fellowship in the Field of Fine Arts".

Under the "Junior/Senior Fellowship in the Field of Fine Arts", a total of 15 fellowships are awarded each year, with 5 fellowships reserved for senior artists and 10 fellowships designated for junior artists.

The scheme provides a monthly stipend of ₹3,000 to each selected senior artist and ₹2,000 to each selected junior artist under the "Junior/Senior Fellowship in the Field of Fine Arts".

The fellowship under the "Junior/Senior Fellowship in the Field of Fine Arts" is initially granted for a period of one year, and it may be extended up to a maximum of two years based on the satisfactory performance and progress of the artist as evaluated by the Academy’s committee.

The "Junior/Senior Fellowship in the Field of Fine Arts" is applicable exclusively to artists working in the domains of painting, sculpture, and graphic arts.

The selection of junior and senior artists for the "Junior/Senior Fellowship in the Field of Fine Arts" is carried out by a committee of expert artists appointed by the Academy, which evaluates the artistic merit and project proposal of each applicant.

Yes, under the "Junior/Senior Fellowship in the Field of Fine Arts", an artist may receive the fellowship for a second consecutive year if the committee finds the artist’s ongoing work to be sufficiently encouraging and deserving of continued support.
