The “Mukhyamantri Anusoochit Jaati Evam Anusoochit Janajati Chhatrawas Anudan Yojana” was launched by the SC and ST Welfare Department, Government of Bihar aims to provide financial assistance in every month to the students studying in Scheduled Caste/Scheduled Tribe hostels.

There are 111 hostels: 104 for Scheduled Caste boys and girls, and 7 for Scheduled Tribes students.

What facilities are provided to the students in these hostels?

Students are provided with cots, mattresses, bedsheets, tables and chairs for studying utensils for cooking, and kitchen facilities.

What is the process for the payment of the hostel grant?

The Hostel Superintendent uploads the list of students online, which is verified by the District Welfare Officer. The approved list is then processed by the Director, Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe Welfare Department, and the grant amount is transferred to students' bank accounts via PFMS.

How is the scheme monitored?

The scheme is monitored through monthly meetings of the Hostel Steering Committee at the district level, and by the Divisional Deputy Director, Welfare, who ensures proper implementation and submits monthly reports.

What are the responsibilities of the District Welfare Officer in this scheme?

The District Welfare Officer verifies the student list, monitors the scheme's implementation, and submits utilization certificates along with financial and physical data to the department.

The current accommodation capacity is approximately 5500 students, which will increase to 9100 after the completion of under-construction hostels.
